Books, Knowledge, Mommy & Daddy, Cancer.

I have been told numerous times that I am the only adult a person knows who refers to my parents as "mommy" and "daddy". But I don't really mind. I will always call them by the names I have always called them. My parents mean so very much to me. A term of endearment is to be expected. They have taught me many things and continue to teach me.

One of my earliest memories is sitting on my mommy's lap as a small child, learning to read. She home schooled my oldest sisters longer than I, but in that one year, in kindergarten, I learned to read.

I love reading so much. In our books are worlds that are simply there for the taking. These worlds are mysterious, joyful, sad, terrifying, magical, enchanting, and sometimes, a little crazy. Books hold the key to one of the most powerful things on earth: knowledge. Knowledge of our past and present and futuristic flying cars. My mommy showed these worlds to me. I have been to places I could have never gone without her. In books and on life's journey.

My mommy has cancer. When she called to tell me that the doctor wanted her to come in for the results, I knew it was bad news. My husband came home from work to find me sitting on the kitchen floor, crying. Now, crying isn't an uncommon thing for me in the least. I cry when I'm sad...angry....happy...and pretty much any time emotion overwhelms me. This time, I believe it's fear of the unknown. I don't know anything about cancer. At all. Not to mention, the type of cancer my mommy has been diagnosed with is somewhat rare. So, once again, I am being taught:

1) to deal with something I don't want to deal with
2) things about a subject of which I never expected to learn
